About me

Jo Mignone is an artist, illustrator, design practitioner, and academic in Communication Design at the University of South Australia, School of Art, Architecture and Design. Jo maintains a contemporary professional Illustration practice and exhibits regularly. Jo’s research is practice-led, examining picture making processes and visual literacy through drawing. Her focus is the materiality of drawing and drawing as a research tool within the design process, specifically, Illustration.

Promoting hand-generated imgae making and critical observation. Visual literacy, image portrayal and stereotypes.


Joanne recently had her illustration work exhibited at the Mumedi Mexican Museum of Design as part of an international poster exhibition. Her work was selected from over 23,000 participants to be a finalist, exploring communication values in poster design. Her theme centred around engaging smokers in conveying health risks of smoking.
