About me
Welcome to my home page at the University of South Australia Justice and Society.
My teaching career began in 1979 and it has been in the University, Institute and College and Schools sectors. During this time, I have taught undergrads in Social Work, Human Services, Education and Nursing and Master of Teaching Students at the University of South Australia, Flinders University, South Australian Institute of Technology and the South Australian College of Advanced Education. My tertiary teaching roles have included being Course Coordinator, Lecturer and Tutor in the Social Sciences and Education Studies. Since 2011 my teaching areas have been in Policy, Politics, Sociology and Education.
Since 2016 I have been involved in the South Australian Parliamentary Internship program and in 2019 SAPI celebrated 25 years as a joint program between the 3 South Australian universities. From 2017 to 2019 I was the Program Director for Social Science (Human Services) and Co First Year Coordinator for the School of Psychology Social Work and Social Policy. In 2022 I was recognised in having achieved 10 years of service to the University of South Australia.
Further, my teaching experiences within the Department of Education and Child Development have included R-7, CPC-12 and Secondary schools/colleges in urban and rural communities including duties as Rural School Head Teacher, Key Teacher in Reporting, Year 11- and 12-Year Level Manager and Studies of Society and Environment Coordinator. From 1995 to 2011 I taught adults of diverse ages returning to formal studies in re-entry programs - sometimes referred to as second chance learning. These programs included University of South Australia Foundation Studies (UniSA-PAL), South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and Community Services Certificates 2 and 3.
From 1995 to 2009 I was a member of the Politics Year 11/12 Subject Advisory Committee of the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA) and Curriculum Leadership Committee of SACE Board. During this time, I was involved in course curriculum writing for Stage 1 and 2 Australian and International Politics. From 2010 to 2016 I was a member of the Australian and International Politics Curriculum Leaders Group of the SACE Board. Finally, from 1997 to 2010 I was responsible with colleagues for the organisation of the annual Politics Students' Conference, which had Members of Parliament, Journalists and Academics presented their views on Australian and International politics to senior secondary school students.
