I originate from Hastings, New Zealand which is very similar to Adelaide with sunny weather and glorious beaches. My iwi (tribe) is Ngati Kahungunu. My Phd focused on how Maori (Indigenous people) from New Zealand engaged with healthcare services. I have publised text books on Cultural Safety and Clinical Supervision. I am a registered social worker and my background is in mental health, youth health and Maori health.

For the past 29 years I have practised as a Registered Mental Health Social Worker, Functional Family Therapy (FFT) Practitioner and Senior Lecturer for Auckland University of Technology and Eastern Institute of Technology, NZ.
My role before coming to UniSA in 2018 was as the Coordinator of a Maori workforce programme in Hawke's Bay, NZ. I focused on the recruitment, retention and succession planning of Maori within the health workforce using Prince2 project management methodology.
I enjoy teaching and research and plan to continue publishing within the area of cultural safety within Australia.
