Mr Greg Sharplin is the Research and Strategy Manager of the Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre and a Senior Research Fellow in UniSA Clinical and Health Sciences. Greg commenced his career at UniSA in 2017.
The Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre (RBRC) is a partnership between the Rosemary Bryant Foundation and the University of South Australia, which aims to strengthen the nursing & midwifery workforce across the health system through the development of evidence-based healthcare. The RBRC is developing a comprehensive research program focused on advancing the discipline of nursing/midwifery and patient care related to population and public health, workforce reform, safety and quality, clinical practice, patient outcomes, and integration into education. Its objective is to enhance innovative partnerships for healthcare research, to inform strategies for: 1) Extending the capacity and capabilities of nurses and midwives to build a resilient, sustainable and collaborative workforce, 2) health system planning and resourcing, 3) clinical care outcomes, and 4) translation of evidence into practice
Greg’s role is to oversee the establishment, business and research development, and review of the RBRC. This includes leading the development, implementation and evaluation of the RBRC five year Strategic Plan; fostering national and international links and strategic collaborative relationships with relevant research institutions, universities and community bodies; day-to-day management of the RBRC; and leading research activities associated with the RBRC’s research program.
Greg has a Masters in Science (Epidemiology) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Masters in Psychology (Organisational and Human Factors) from the University of Adelaide, as well as Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) and Bachelor of Science. Greg led the authorship and production of the South Australian Cancer Research Strategy 2016-2021, the development and direction of the research strategy at Cancer Council SA, overseen the direction and activities of the Cancer Council SA internal research unit including the production of over 60 scientific reports, provided secretariat support functions for state-level cancer research committees, been a participating member on national committees, and undertaken research that has achieved change in health policy and program delivery. Greg has co-authored 11 publications and 15 presentations at scientific conferences.
Alongside Greg’s research experience, he has a background in leading and developing new and experienced staff, building a strong and supportive team dynamic, core managerial competencies including budget and account-keeping for multiple projects totalling in-excess of $3 million, liaising with key stakeholders in health services including those with clinical, administrative and consumer backgrounds, and business case development. Greg has previously worked in a Hospital-based pathology laboratory as a laboratory scientist.
