Dr Hayley Leake is a physiotherapist and Research Fellow at the University of South Australia (UniSA) at the Body in Mind research group at IIMPACT in Health. Her research focuses on chronic pain management, pain education and digital health, particularly in adolescence. Hayley has published over 30 research articles. She was selected as a finalist for the 2023 South Australian Science Excellence and Innovation Awards (SASEIA) in the category of PhD Research Excellence. About me
Dr Hayley Leake is a physiotherapist and Research Fellow at the University of South Australia (UniSA) at the Body in Mind research group at IIMPACT in Health. Her research focuses on chronic pain management, pain education and digital health, particularly in adolescence. Hayley has published over 30 research articles. She was also awarded the 2022 Ruth Grant Prize for dedication to physiotherapy research by UniSA.
In 2021, Hayley obtaining a competitive grant from the Australian Pain Society to co-design pain education resources with adolescents with chronic pain. She founded the Chronic Pain Project (>1400 subscribers) to disseminate these resources via social media. Hayley is passionate about co-designing research in partnership with consumers to maximise relevance and real-world impact. To facilitate this, in 2023 she established a consumer group of 12 youth advisors (13-18 years) with chronic pain. She has been acknowledged for her successful science communication and engagement, being recognised as a Pain Champion for Australia’s leading pain advocacy group, Pain Australia.
Hayley holds leadership roles, including as a committee member of Australian Pain Society's scientic programming committee, and lead of the Adolescent and Young Adults Woking Group of the EQUIPP (Equipping the General Public to Prevent and Overcome Chronic Pain) project. She also leads the Mechanisms Working Group in the Pain Education Team Aspiring Learning (PETAL) international collaboration. Hayley holds an appointment as an honorary Research Fellow at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) in the Centre for Pain IMPACT in Sydney.
