A passionate learning designer with more than 18 years working in the sector, I rarely switch off in exploring what ICTs can and are doing for education and communications.
I enjoy building capacity in others and participate in a wide range of online-learning projects. I regularly teach in the short course "Engaging Learners Online" which introduces new academics to the online pedagogies and tools that will help them create, teach and deliver effective online courses.
I have spearheaded the development of Artificial Intelligence resources for university academics as part of the Teaching Innovation Unit, authoring the library guide, facilitating workshops and information sessions, updating central information pages, co-authoring presentations and advising academics on education and assessment designs that consider AI into consideration.
I am a member of the Australasian Academic Integrity Network and was on the committee that arranged and delivered the successful 2023 online conference.
Constructing learning is about the learner getting stuck into applying knowledge and nothing gives me more fulfilment than learners saying "I did it and I'm proud of myself!" I've facilitated workshops and delivered presentations across Australia and get a real buzz out of both teaching and learning - online as well as face-to-face.
My areas of interest related to learning include the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning in Higher Education, Design Thinking, accessibility and Universal Design for Learning.
My background includes both the Vocational and Higher Education sectors as well as work for the Commonwealth government. I've had the opportunity to travel around Australia presenting on a wide range of educational technology topics and, as the producer and talent for eLearning Insights, Australia's first national elearning podcast, have had the privilege of interviewing some of the leading thinkers in the field.
I hold a Graduate Certificate in Online Learning from UNE, a BSci In Broadcasting and Marketing from Northern Arizona University, a Diploma in Project Management from the Australian Institute of Management, a Cert IV TAE with LLN from BJ Network Consulting, and a Professional Certificate in Web Accessibility from UniSA. I was also fortunate enough to participate in the Stanford Life Design Studio workshops in 2022, sponsored by the Australian Technical Network (ATN), which allowed me to deepen my understanding of the application of Design Thinking to career and programme selection for students.
