Mel has over 10 years of experience within the acute health sector, with a particular focus on grief, loss and bereavement counselling and assisting people to cope and adjust to many different life transitions that they may be facing.
As a Student Counsellor, Mel provides a safe, neuroaffirming space for students to share their story, worries and concerns. About me
Mel is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker dedicated to providing holistic, inclusive counselling support to students.
Mel has over 10 years of experience within the acute health sector, with a particular focus on grief, loss and bereavement counselling and assisting people to cope and adjust to many different life transitions that they may be facing.
As a Student Counsellor, Mel provides a safe, neuroaffirming space for students to share their story, worries and concerns. Mel offers therapeutic support and practical strategies to students dealing with a wide range of mental health and personal issues with the aim of improving coping, well-being, and student outcomes.
Some of the areas Mel supports students with include; managing stress, anxiety and overwhelm, managing challenging or distressing emotions, adjusting to university life, identity concerns, executive functioning challenges, feelings of depression and low mood, loss, grief, and navigating family and relationship challenges.
Mel utilises a range of evidence-based interventions including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectal Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Self Compassion approaches, EMDR, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Interpersonal Therapy and Narrative Therapy depending on the presenting issue and individual student’s needs.
In her spare time, Mel enjoys spending time with family and friends, travel and is always looking for new food experiences to try.
Mel is available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week.
