Mr Michael Bowditch

Michael Bowditch is Mechanical Engineer working with the Materials Engineering Group at UniSA.

Before working at UniSA, Michael completed a Bachelor of Design (Product Design) at the City West Campus and then joined the engineering team at Precision Components, an automotive component manufacturer in Adelaide. In this role he developed a skillset in 3D CAD design, tooling and equipment design, product development, and project management. As this company transitioned away from automotive supply and looked to diversify into other areas, Michael worked on a wide range of projects in industries such as Defence, Construction, and Renewable Energy. One of these projects included a 2-year Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) with UniSA, where Michael developed and managed the installation of a pilot scale concentrated solar power field in Edinburgh, SA. 

Michael is now using his skillset and experience to provide technical support for the Materials Engineering Group, and also to facilitate new projects with industry through the Industry 4.0 Testlab.

Work history

Precision Components (2012 - 2015)

• Manufacturing engineer working with pressed sheet metal components and assemblies. 
• Design of robotic tooling, manufactuirng processes, new components. 
• High volume production environment, lean manufacturing principles. 

Heliostat SA (2015 - 2019)

• Design Engineer and Project Manager developing new renewable energy products. 
• Successfully licensed CSIRO Heliostat design and delivered projects in Australia and Japan. 
• Worked on concentrating solar thermal, fixed tilt, and single axis tracking PV technology.
