Ms Sherryl Gaston

About me

Sherryl moved to Whyalla after living in Alice Springs for about 10 years. She gained her initial nursing qualification from Uni SA and then worked at the Royal Adelaide Hospital for a few years. In Alice Springs she predominantly worked with Aboriginal clients. This was at the Renal unit undertaking Haemodialysis, the prison where the clientele was 80% Aboriginal males and the Aboriginal Medical Service. Sherryl had a short stint at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service prior to becoming a Correctional Services Nurse. The ARCBS is where she developed an appreciation for Quality. Sherryl spent a couple of years working as the Quality Enhancement Nurse at the Aboriginal Medical Service in Alice Springs and developed a passion for quality and safety in healthcare. She became a Lecturer/Workplace Assessor at Charles Darwin University and worked in both the Enrolled Nurse and Registered Nurse programs. This then led to her becoming the coordinator of the Enrolled nurse program in both Alice Springs and Darwin. During this time Sherryl developed the online Undergraduate Renal Specialty course and coordinated it in 2008 for 3rd Year Bachelor of Nursing students.
