My University roles in recent years have included various research national project leadership roles for various discipline areas including in relation to national Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) work in pharmacy experiential placements and in law education through the Council of Law Deans.
At UniSA I have worked to support research and development of proposals for various university strategic directions. processes across the University of South Australia.
As an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow currently, I have been supervising PhD students and I am a member of the Wellbeing Research Group. This work builds on my doctoral research studies which involved quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches focused on 'Emerging Trends in Teacher Professional Development within a Career Continuum'.
While in Papua, Timor Leste and currently in Kiribati, I have continued to research and publish papers especially regarding school reform and systems change and capacity building of school and ministry education leaders within developing country contexts. My previous research in Australia and overseas has included coaching, mentoring and study teams, with communities of practice theoretical frameworks applied.
I have over 30 years experience as a primary and secondary school teacher in various states of Australia and overseas, including a decade in high school leadership focused on professional development, strategic planning and change, performance management, personnel and middle schooling. I have held various senior departmental positions in education regarding Innovative Learning Environments within an OECD project, in School Development Planning, the South Australian Certificate of Education, Performance Management and Underperformance. My work has included policy writing, advisory work with principals, professional development, research and educational evaluations and reviews. I have worked with the registration board for teachers in a research and consultancy role related to professional teaching standards, accreditation of teaching programs and liaison with students and Deans of Education and others about registration issues.
I previously led national consultancy work for the Department of Education, Equity and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) in regard to teacher and leader workforce planning. I continue to work as a researcher, consultant and evaluator with professional associations and government agencies, and support school leaders in planning and delivering quality professional development programs.
My current research is focused on innovative schools and the impact of professional learning communities in building teacher skills for using more transformative approaches, as well as the impact on student learning.
I am a Fellow of Australian College of Educators and have been co-chair of the Education on the Square events in South Australia.
I have conducted coaching workshops for leaders and regularly present conference papers, also supporting agencies in research and evaluation tender processes. I have worked with a range of national professional organisations in relation to disciplines including law education, dietitians, speech pathology, mental health and podiatry, occupational therapy.
