Mr Upekha Atupola

I am Upekha Atupola, a research assistant and a doctoral candidate at the University of South Australia. My research focuses on the role of management accounting in implementing circular economy initiatives in the Sri Lankan tea plantation sector. I hold a B.Sc. in Accounting with First Class Honors from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, and I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) United Kingdom and the Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA).

My research has been published in reputable academic journals, and I have presented my work at international conferences. I have explored topics such as corporate biodiversity management practices and the integration of accounting into circular economy business models. Additionally, I serve as a peer reviewer for several journals and have been a guest speaker at various academic conferences.

I have several years of teaching experience in financial accounting and reporting, and I have been involved in curriculum development for professional accounting programs. My professional background includes roles in the automobile, media, and education sectors, where I have worked as an assistant manager, head of finance, and co-founder/CFO.

On a personal note, I am a proud father to a wonderful son and a travel enthusiast who loves exploring new cultures and destinations. I am passionate about my research and dedicated to contributing to the academic and professional communities. I have secured research grants and actively participate in various academic and professional activities.
