He has been instrumental in successful completion of a number high profile projects that involved gaining the commitment and financial support from state and federal governments, other partner agencies, the research and industry partners.
Dr Forghani’s professional work focuses increasingly on the governance and management of geospatial information technologies and policy integration with a track record of collaborating with multiple agencies and multiple disciplines in Australia and abroad. As an experienced geospatial policy and technology implementation professional, he works to integrate theory and practice, drawing on numerous perspectives and disciplines. He worked on research and geospatial policy execution initiatives that spans urban and regional planning, gas and petroleum exploration, health and epidemiology, geotourism, natural and human-induced disasters, catchment management, landscape change, agricultural and agro-forestry, vegetation and revegetation, water policy and river basin planning, climate change, and wildland fire modelling and mapping.
His extensive past industry and academic experience translates into a focus that teaching in geospatial information systems programs needs to not only meet students’ needs and expectations, but also should also meet the expectations of external stakeholders. He advocates flexible delivery of postgraduate programs, and constantly promotes research and innovative teaching practices in the applications of geospatial to solve complex real world problems for the national-international interests.
