Joanna Newbery, Mawson Lakes Campus (H3-19) t: 08 830 23450 e: Joanna.Newbery@unisa.edu.au
I completed my PhD in Biomaterials Engineering at the University of Sheffield, UK. After a short period as a post-doc, I co-founded Plasso Technology Ltd. in 2003, to develop plasma polymerised coatings for life science applications. The company was VC funded for several years, and launched one product before being bought by US medical giant Becton Dickinson (BD). Following the buyout, I remained with BD to develop a range of tissue culture plastic products (BD Purecoat). In 2010 I accepted a research position at the Mawson Institute at the University of South Australia. In 2014 I moved to the School of Engineering as a Senior Lecturer, and I am currently a Professor in UniSA STEM and Dean of Research.
