Rajabrata Banerjee (aka Raj Banerjee) is a Professor of Applied Economics and a Professorial Lead at the UniSA Business School. Raj holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Calcutta (Scottish Church College), an MA in Economics from Jadavpur University and a PhD in Economics from Monash University.
As an applied development economist, he is particularly interested in exploring the intersection of economics and finance in the areas of economic growth, inequality and institutions. As an applied development economist, he is particularly interested in exploring the intersection of economics and finance in the areas of economic growth, inequality and institutions. His current works focus on energy poverty, social exclusion, mental health and well-being, corruption and crime, and foreign aid effectiveness in emerging and developing countries.
He has published research articles in a range of high-ranking international journals, including the Journal of Economic Growth, Journal of Corporate Finance, Energy Economics, Journal of Cleaner Production, International Review of Financial Analysis and Southern Economic Journal. He has also received external research grants from a number of national and international think tanks.
He is a member of the Economic Society of Australia, American Economic Association, Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (Monash University) and a fellow of the South Australian Governor’s Leadership Foundation program.
Prof Banerjee has a passion for teaching and has taught a broad range of economics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As a Professorial Lead, Raj closely works with the Deans of Programs and is responsible for teaching quality and assurance of a broad range of programs/courses within UniSA Business. He is also an active research degree supervisor.
