Dr Afshar is a health economist, currently assisting the QUMPRC research team in a NHMRC grant funded project. Prior to joining at QUMPRC, he held academic and research positions at University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Brac University, Jagannath University, and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). About me
Dr Afshar is a health economist, currently assisting the QUMPRC research team in a NHMRC grant funded project. Prior to joining at QUMPRC, he held academic and research positions at University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), Brac University, Jagannath University, and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). Dr Afshar completed his graduation and post-graduation in Economics in Bangladesh, PhD in Applied Economics in Australia.
Afshar’s area of broad research interest include health services research, health economics, and medical device epidemiology. He has expertise in conducting statistical and health economic modelling using complex survey-based, observational and longitudinal data. High quality of his research work is evinced by the publication of multiple research papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including Telematics and Informatics; Journal of Biomedical Informatics; International Journal of Medical Informatics; Economic Policy and Analysis; and Economics of Innovation and New Technology.
His capability to conduct high-quality impactful research has been recognised by several awards and recognitions including 2022 & 2021 UniSQ HDR Publication Excellence Award, and 2017 UniSQ International Research Scholarship Award. He is an active member of several professional bodies including Economic Society of Australia, Australian Health Economics Society, International Health Economics Association and Statistical Society of Australia. As an early career researcher, he got the privilege to author of 15+ Q1 journal articles and have been cited around 500 times with a current h-index of 13. He had managed to supervise and mentor one post-graduate student and four honours students.
