About me
Associate Professor Amie Albrecht is the Interim Dean of Programs (Science, Technology & Mathematics), and responsible for leading the quality and performance of UniSA's degrees in science, environmental science, information management, information technology, and mathematics.
Amie's teaching expertise lies in developing mathematical thinking and problemsolving skills in students, and in innovative design of curricula and assessment that supports student growth. Her work has been recognised with national and university teaching awards, including an 2019 AAUT Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. She is a regular speaker to maths teachers and school students, having given more than 30 invited keynotes, presentations and workshops across Australia since 2016.
Amie's research focusses mainly on industrial applications of mathematics, particularly scheduling and control methods for railway operations and energyefficient driving, and has been funded by the ARC Discovery and Linkage schemes and Cooperative Research Centres.
Her interest in creating supportive learning environments and inclusive professional communities has led to a number of service and leadership roles within the mathematics profession and education communities. Amie is currently the Secretary of ANZIAM and an AustMS Council member. She also serves on the AustMS Standing Committee on Mathematics Education, the AMSI Education Advisory Committee, the AMT Challenge Committee, and the Research Advisory Committee of the South Australian Museum.
She is one of 16 women featured in the upcoming Australian Women of Mathematics gallery of portraits.

Efficient rail transport
The Energymiser incab driver advice system, developed by the UniSA Scheduling and Control Group, uses optimal control theory to help train drivers stay on time and minimise energy use. The system is used by railways around the world, including passenger trains in the UK and TGV trains in France. ARC Linkage Project with Peter Pudney and Phil Howlett (UniSA).
Perturbed linear operators
Numerical solution procedures for the inversion of linear matrix pencils. ARC Discovery Project with Phil Howlett and Geetika Verma (UniSA) and Kostia Avrachenkov (INRIA France).
