Teaching & student supervision

Highlights

My teaching interests include Languages Education and Asian Studies, with a focus on the study of Asian Languages in Australia in "the Asian Century".,Chinese as a second language. Learning a tonal and character-based language like Chinese is undoubtedly a challenge. By introducing Chinese language from a second language learners perspective, the features that challenge learners, such as the nature of the character system and how best to learn it, and the nature of the Chinese grammar system in contrast to English for example, can be identified and addressed from the outset. Providing such a foundation before engaging in meaningful content learning can impact on student interest and achievement in the longer term.
