Barb conducts research and teaches in the area of human dimensions of environment and sustainability. She is a member of the Scarce Resources and Circular Economy research centre (ScaRCE), and is interested in behavior change regarding environmental lifestyle practices, park/land management and conservation, nature-based tourism and community sustainability. She currently does work on ecoanxiety/ecogrief as related to climate change. About me

She currently does work on ecoanxiety/ecogrief as related to climate change. Barb arrived in 2003 from Duluth, Minnesota (USA), having decided to move to Australia after studying sustainable tourism in Queensland (James Cook University) and Chile and the South Island of New Zealand on a sabbatical. Barb was previously Research Director for the U.S. National Scenic Byways Program (U.S. Federal Highways Administration). Previously, she spent 10 years on the University of Minnesota (U.S.) faculty doing outreach education and research for the nature-based tourism industry. Along the way, Barb developed a successful ecotourism consulting business, and has lived/worked in 30+ countries including Zanzibar (Tanzania), Ghana, Uganda, Russia, Belarus, Thailand, Malaysia and Jordan.

Barb was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Natural and Built Environments (NBE) from 2003-2014. She taught courses in sustainable development, community engagement and conflict management, ecotourism and nature-based travel, park management field studies, and community partnerships (graduate level).
She guest lectures on indigeneous environmental management and ecogrief/anxiety as related to climate change.
