About me
I joined the Law School at the University of South Australia in April 2018, after working and teaching in Law Schools in France, the UK and Australia.
I commenced my academic career in 2003, working for one year at the Universite d’Angers in Angers in the Loire Valley, France. Here, I was engaged in teaching aspects of English law to French undergraduate law students. After this, I moved to the University of Sunderland in the UK, where I worked as a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer. While at Sunderland, I taught across a range of courses in the legal curriculum, including undergraduate courses in the Law of Evidence, Sports Law Criminal Law and Medical Law, and postgraduate courses in Criminal Justice.
In 2014, I moved to Australia in order to take up a post as Senior Lecturer in the Law School at the University of New England, Armidale, NSW. Here, I taught courses in Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Punishment and Sentencing. During my time at UNE, I also served on the Teaching and Learning and Research Committees and acted as Chair of the School Executive Committee. Acting as Deputy Head of School, I represented the Law School at University Council of Heads of Schools meetings and at public and industry engagements.
I moved to UniSA in 2018 as Associate Professor of Criminal Law and Evidence and currently teach in areas aligned with my research interests. These encompass Criminal Justice, Sports Law, Medical Law and Legal Education and I have published widely in these areas. Topics that I am currently engaged with include sports (in)discipline and the concept of ‘rurality’ in criminal sentencing.
I have acted as an External Examiner for Nottingham Law School (2008-12) and for Northumbria Law School (2012-14), and was an External Course Review Panel Member for Staffordshire University Law School (2012). I was on the Executive Committee of the Socio-Legal Studies Association (2012-15) and was convenor of the Sports Law (2008-14) and Criminal Justice (2010-14) streams of the SLSA. I also acted as co-convenor of the Jurisprudence section of the Society of Legal Scholars (2011-13). I served on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Rural Law and Policy (2017-18) and was a member of the Advisory Group for The Academy meets the Judiciary initiative (NSW and ACT) (2017-18). I have acted as peer reviewer for numerous journals, including New Criminal Law Review, Journal of Criminal Law, Sexualities, University of New South Wales Law Journal, and the Journal of the Australasian Law Teachers’ Association.
