About me
Dr Bereket Duko (Adema) is a Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Precision Health - University of South Australia. He is an epidemiologist, public health, and mental health researcher. He had worked as a postdoctoral Research Associate within the Epidemiology Research Team at the Discipline of Health Economics, Epidemiology and Data Analytics, Curtin School of Population Health, Curtin University, WA. He has an interdisciplinary academic background, with academic qualifications in Public Health, Mental Health and several training in statistics. He recently obtained his PhD in Epidemiology from Curtin University in July 2022. His PhD project focused on the effects of prenatal alcohol and tobacco exposure on offspring mental health and substance use adverse outcomes using one of the largest multigenerational pregnancy and birth cohort study (the Raine Study), based in Perth, Western Australia (WA). He has substantial experience in statistical analysis of complex and large sets of data such as longitudinal (cohort) data and administrative data linkages.
He currently holds appointments as Adjunct Research Fellow at Epidemiology Research Team at the Discipline of Health Economics, Epidemiology and Data Analytics, Curtin School of Population Health, Curtin University, WA and as an assistant professor at College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Hawassa University, Hawassa, Ethiopia. He has authored over 75 high quality publications in the international top-tier Epidemiology, medical and discipline specific journals. Prior to his PhD study, he had been a faculty member at Hawassa University, Hawassa, Ethiopia, involved in teaching, research and community service activities. His current research interests are life-course, perinatal and mental health epidemiology.
