Brenton Hordacre is an NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow working with the Body in Mind Research group at the University of South Australia. His research is focused on three aspects 1) Investigating physiological mechanisms which mediate recovery following neurological injury such as stroke; 2) Identifying biomarkers to guide treatment selection and understand response to therapy; and 3) Rapid translation into clinical practice.
He has expertise in various state-of-the-art tools to investigate the human brain in vivo. These include non-invasive brain stimulation modalities (eg TMS, rTMS, tDCS), magnetic resonance imaging (including functional MRI, diffusion MRI and spectroscopy) and electroencephalography (EEG) to understand and... He has expertise in various state-of-the-art tools to investigate the human brain in vivo. These include non-invasive brain stimulation modalities (eg TMS, rTMS, tDCS), magnetic resonance imaging (including functional MRI, diffusion MRI and spectroscopy) and electroencephalography (EEG) to understand and investigate brain function.
Brenton has been a prolific publisher, regularly presents at international and national meetings and is currently an editorial board member for two physiotherapy journals. His research quality is recognised through several recent awards including the prestigious Elizabeth Penfold Simpson Prize for best neuroscience paper (Brain Foundation) and was recognised as the most outstanding early career researcher across the University of South Australia. He holds positions on the SA Branch Council for the APA, is co-chair of the Australasian Neuroscience Committee EMCR group and is a member of Stroke SA and the Stroke Society of Australasia.
Brenton is currently looking for research students interested in Neurorehabilitation, brain imaging and brain stimulation
