About me
Dr King (previously O'Doherty) is a Senior Lecturer in UniSA Clinical and Health Sciences.
She contributes to Pharmacology teaching and is a Research Education Portfolio Leader (REPL).
Dr King has an interest in genetic variability and disease/treatment outcomes and is a member of the Australian Centre for Precision Health. She completed her undergraduate Master of Pharmacy Degree at Queen's University, Belfast, and her subsequent pre-registration training with Boots The Chemists, Edinburgh, as a student of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. She returned to Queen's University, Belfast in 2004 to undertake a PhD examining the genetics of susceptibility to multiple sclerosis and pharmacogenomics of interferon beta treatment in multiple sclerosis patients. As part of this CAST award studentship, Catherine also had the unique opportunity of working with her sponsor company, Biogen Idec in Cambridge, MA. She has worked with neurologists from various centres across Australia to identify genetic variations which may determine responsiveness to interferon beta treatment in MS patients. Besides MS genetics/pharmacogenomics, Dr King has worked in rheumatoid arthritis genetics/pharmacogenomics, and has an interest in mendelian randomisation.
