About me
I am an online course facilitator for the Bachelor of Business (Management) and have responsibility for leading the development and delivery of online teaching for UniSA Online students. My role involves working closely with divisional staff at UniSA to provide high-quality online teaching to undergraduate students, and to coordinate the day-to-day activities of online tutoring staff.
I am a keen teacher with over 40 years of experience in which I draw on practical insights from my extensive consulting experience.
As a Psychology graduate I hold a BA with first class Honours in Psychology from Flinders University, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Melbourne. With over eight years management experience across Commonwealth and SA public sector organisations (including Manager, Strategic Alliances in TAFE SA) and several years in governance roles in not-for-profit organisations (including as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Rehabilitation Providers Association) I provide a practical focus on management education. I have also managed a consultancy business for over 30 years applying a wide variety of strategic management, performance measurement and evaluation tools and methods, as well as giving advice, mentorship and consultancy to managers and directors, on strategy and performance evaluation. As a teacher and trainer in postgraduate programs since 1988 years I have facilitated many masters courses and supervised and/or assessed hundreds of student workplace projects.
As an academic I have produced over 60 publications, including booklets, book chapters and conference papers, on: corporate governance, organisational capacity building, organisational learning (including organisational culture, organisational change and organisational development) and strategic evaluation methodologies; strategic management, strategic evaluation; data collection methodologies, design, ethics and standards in performance measurement and evaluation. In terms of international business I have been a consultant (over 10 years) in Asian countries (including China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam).
As a Foundation Committee Member, Editor of the Evaluation Journal of Australasia and former President (1994 – 1995) of the Australasian Evaluation Society (AES) my contribution to program evaluation has been recognised by receiving the ET&S Award in 1993 (the highest honour from the AES), and given the title of Fellow of the AES (2003). Also I have been a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors for over ten years, and Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia since 2010.
As a teacher at UniSA for several years, I was the Program Director of the Master of Business Administration at the Business School from October 2015 till December 2016 and Course Coordinator of the first core course of the MBA which is BUSS 5424 Strategic Thinking. In this role I contributed as UniSA’s corporate member of the Graduate Management Association of Australia (GMAA) and on the National Executive Committee of the GMAA from November 2015 to February 2017.
As a researcher I have been conducting a research project on engaging MBA students in setting and evaluating their own work integrated learning outcomes which has been attracting considerable interest through the 2015 HERGA national symposium on Research Skill Development and Assessment in the masters coursework programs; as well as at the 2016 conference of the MBA Directors by the Graduate Management Association of Australia.
I am also a member of a team of several researchers in the Division of Education, Art and Social Sciences which has been awarded UniSA's RTIS funding for two projects under the heading of: “Youth Voice: Developing young entrepreneurs in the creative industries - an investigation in low SES community contexts” in partnership with the Adelaide College of the Arts, Adelaide City and Playford City Councils, and Service to Youth Council (SYC / HYPA).
