About me
I am a physiotherapist, pain scientist and educator. I am currently a National Health and Medical Research Council funded research fellow in the Allied Health & Human Performance unit at the University of South Australia. My research focuses on new approaches to chronic pain that leverage new technologies and modern understandings of sensory processing.
I am a co-author of Pain and The Nature of Perception: A New Way to Look at Pain, and an inventer of gadgets. In that vein, I hold two national innovation ‘iAwards’ for my part in creating virtual reality and sensory training approaches currently being used in pain research.
I have a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons), a Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy, and a chronic-pain focussed PhD. Since 2007, my clinical work has been primarily with musculoskeletal and chronic pain populations in rural and urban locations, and in public, private and university settings.
I am an enthusiastic educator. In addition to my role as a lecturer in musculoskeletal and chronic pain physiotherapy, I serve on the education committees for the Australian Pain Society and Pain Revolution, and I am on the OneThing pain science podcast team.
