Dr Debo Cheng is a Research Fellow and a data scientist at the STEM, University of South Australia. He received a Ph.D. degree in Causal Inference from the University of South Australia in 2021. His research interests focus on Data Mining, Machine Learning, Causal Inference, and Causal Machine Learning.
Currently, his research falls in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics, focusing on developing data-driven causal inference techniques to support evidence-based decision-making and solve real-world problems. Currently, his research falls in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics, focusing on developing data-driven causal inference techniques to support evidence-based decision-making and solve real-world problems. Dr Cheng has published over 60 papers in top-tier conferences and journals, including TKDE, TNNLS, ACM Computing Surveys, ACM TIST, DMKD, IPM, IJCAI, AAAI, ICLR, ICDM, ECAI, ECML-PKDD, etc. His publications have attracted 2400 citations.
He has been invited to serve as journal academic editor, guest editor, and reviewer/Program Committee for top-ranked journals and top-tier conferences in AI, machine learning, and data analytics, such as TKDE, TNNLS, TYCB, ACM Computing Surveys,PR, IPM, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, ACM MM, UAI, etc.
His primary research goal is to advance scientific discovery by leveraging causal inference techniques,with a particular focus on experimental design and the validation of scientific conclusions using data,even in the presence of latent confounders. He aims to bridge the gap between theoretical causal frameworks and practical applications by developing methods that enable more robust and unbiased causaleffect estimation. His work seeks to ensure that data-driven insights are not only accurate but alsoscientifically sound, thereby contributing to more reliable and generalisable findings across diverse research domains. He is open to collaborations with researchers, faculty members, and students who sharean interest in these areas.
