Prior to UniSA, Deepak has worked at the Griffith School of Business (Griffith University, Brisbane and Gold Coast) and the Australian School of Business (UNSW, Sydney). In 2007-08, Deepak worked closely with the Director (School of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at ASB @UNSW) and other senior academic members to completely revamp the Exec-year MBA course at the Australian School of Business. And, at Griffith School of Business, he has served as a Discipline Leader for Marketing and Entrepreneurship.
In the past Deepak also had the opportunity to either work and/or provide consultancy to industry and the government in both, Australia and India. He has also been an entrepreneur himself and founded a social enterprise in India. For the same reasons, he has a deep and personal interest in the areas of cultural entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, and senior entrepreneurship.
Deepak has conducted research in the field of strategy, innovation policy, entrepreneurship, and international business. His papers have been published in prestigious ABDC A* and A ranked journals, such as Research Policy, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Marketing, Small Business Economics, Journal for Small Business Management, International Journal for Production Economics, International Business Review, etc. Deepak’s research papers have been accepted for presentation in several respected international conferences (e.g., Academy of Management, British Academy of Management, DRUID, etc.). He has also published books on India and China comparison with reputed international publishers, namely Palgrave Macmillan and Routledge.
Deepak is also a co- recipient of Australia-Japan Foundation Grant in 2022. In 2009-10, he (along with two other international scholars, Profs. J. Peter Murmann and Prof. Ben Oviatt) received the prestigious Australian Research Council- Discovery grant, and this grant application was ranked as A+.
Deepak has obtained PhD (Business Administration) from The Australian National University (Canberra) and M.Phil (Science Policy) from Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi). His other degrees are MBA, MA (Social Work), and B.Sc. (Hons.).
