Dr. Dessie Ambaw is a Lecturer in Economics at the UniSA Business School. He is a member of the Centre for Markets, Values, and Inclusion (CMVI) at UniSA. Dessie holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bahir Dar University, MSc in Economic Policy Analysis from Addis Ababa University, MSc in Economics from Copenhagen University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Adelaide University.
Prior to this position, Dr. Dessie was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Adelaide University, a Data Analyst consultant at the World Bank, and a teaching associate at Adelaide University. Dessie’s research interests are in the areas of International Trade, Economic Development, Program Evaluation, and Applied Econometrics. His current research work focuses on international trade policy, global value chain integration, industrial policy, exchange rate, technology diffusion, firm productivity, and the economics of civil conflict. He is also passionate about exploring other basic drivers and barriers of foreign direct investment and international trade flows. His research papers are published in peer-reviewed economic journals such as Applied Economic Letters, Oxford Economic Papers, and China & World Economy.
Dessie currently teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses at UniSA Business. He has extensive experience in teaching a range of different courses in Economics including Data Analytics, International Trade, Trade Statistics, Econometrics, Economic Principles, Quantitative Methods, and Empirical Business Analysis.
