welcome to my staff page - a little about me.
I am a senior woman of the Wiradjuri Nation in NSW but I have lived, studied and worked in South Australia for many years. Before joining UniSA as an Aboriginal academic, I held the position of team leader within a rural Aboriginal health service in the Riverland, where I also spent a number of years with Flinders University Rural and Remote Health delivering Cultural education to Medical and nursing students throughout all regional campuses in SA.
I spent many years in NSW as a student support worker in Primary school education, and as an ITAS tutor with Charles Sturt University and La Trobe University. I have a lifetime of lived experience from the different employment i have held over the years from droving livestock, station hand and working within the roadtrain/ heavy haulage business as owner, operator and depot manager. I have also sat on committees engaged with, and working to, improve the health and education of Aboriginal people. In 2019 I was chosen as a member of the SA Aboriginal Affairs Senior Management Council working group to develop strategies for Closing The Gap. In 2021 I was awarded the Riverland 'Person of the year' NAIDOC award for my contributions to the local community.
My position here at UniSA is as an Aboriginal Academic, researcher, Community engagement and course co-ordinator within the Health Sciences Program in Public and Allied Health. I also am on the Aboriginal Knowledges core working group for the new Adelaide University and other Aboriginal committees/ working groups within UniSa. Recently I became a member of the Aboriginal Health Research Ethics Committee (AHREC) overseen by the Aboriginal Health Council (AHCSA) in South Australia.
