Professor Porter has taught at the University of South Australia, Flinders University of South Australia, University of Ulster and Southern Cross University.
As well as a lecturer, she has been a Research Director at INCORE (International Conflict Research) at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland; and former Head of School of International Studies.
Within the Hawke Research Institute, Professor Porter is a member of the Centre for Peace and Security and an associate member of the Research Centre for Gender Studies.
