About me
Fae is the Program Director for the Masters of Communication (DMCO) at UniSA Creative, which includes the nested Graduate Diploma in Communication (DGCO) and the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication (DCSC). She also lectures in the Bachelor of Communication and Media (MBCD).
Fae has ten years industry experience as a strategic communications professional, having worked in public health communication for the Department of Health in the UK and in Adelaide, and has held communication positions in the disability sector and in primary health care research at Flinders University. Fae has previously taught public relations, communication and media subjects at Flinders University, Charles Sturt University and at UniSA Online.
Fae's research interests focus on the impact of digital media use and media technologies at different levels of society. She is currently leading the Play and Pause Video Game Research project which explores the challenges and opportunities of gaming for parent players. Results from the national survey will be analysed and published along with interview data from parent gamers as part of the next phase of the project, due to commence in March 2023. She is also working with a not-for-profit on a project that aims to shape government policy around media classification in Australia.
Fae's PhD research examined mothers’ interactions with digital media, both as users and facilitators of children’s use, and utilised theories of mediatisation, domestication of technology and parental mediation to identify changes in the communicative practices of contemporary mothers.
In addition to teaching and research, Fae is actively engaged in supporting and representing the perspectives of peers and HDR candidates through her role as ECR rep for UniSA Creative's research strategy group and her mentoring work with international HDR candidates. Fae is also a member of UniSA Creative's Academic Unit Board.
