Dr Hayley Schultz completed her PhD in early 2020. Hayley was supervised by Prof Clive Prestidge and her PhD thesis was titled, 'Supersaturated Silica-Lipid Hybrids - Overcoming the Challenges of Oral Drug Deliery'. Her research focussed on developing oral lipid-based formulations to improve the solubilisation and absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs. Her formulations have improved the oral bioavailability of these drugs, including ibuprofen and abiraterone acetate, to reduce their dose and to improve their safety. Her research gained great media attention, most noteworthy being featured on 7News. She published 5 first author articles from her PhD project, among many other collaborative works. About me
Dr Hayley Schultz completed her PhD in early 2020. During her PhD she was awarded many grants and prizes that allowed her to present her research at 4 international conferences and visit universities and pharmaceutical companies. Hayley's skills that she learnt during her PhD include formulation development, physicochemical characterisation of formulations, in vitro formulation testing (dissolution, lipolysis studies), ethics application writing and in vivo oral pharmacokinetic studies.
Hayley now works as a post-doctoral researcher in the QUMPRC (Quality Use of Medicines Pharmacy Research Centre), where she is using population pharmacokinetic modelling to answer questions around the optimal dosing strategies for various drugs.
Hayley is also a demonstrator in undergraduate practicals. She has taught practicals in the courses Chemistry 100, Chemistry in Life, Structure Determination and Analysis, Dosage Form Design 1 and Dosage Form Design 2. She hopes to continue teaching while conducting research.
Hayley completed a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science in 2014 and Honours in 2015.
