Ms Hayley Timms

As a Learning Designer in the Teaching Innovation Unit, I provide a high level of teaching and learning and education support in the  design and creation of online and in-class learning materials. I also develop innovative ways in which learning management software can be used to deliver complex teaching and learning solutions and advise on functional and interface designs of new and updated software.

I have a BA (Hons) in Professional Communication from the University of South Australia. I’ve worked in the Higher Education sector for over 25 years and have been in Online Educational for over 15 years. Within this role, I work collaboratively with teaching staff to develop pedagogically sound courses within the University’s online environment. I aim to encourage student and staff engagement (both face-to-face and online) through innovative teaching practices, engaging activities, constructive feedback, flexibility, continuity, and most importantly, sustainability.

My expertise is in online teaching and graphic design with a professional interest in simulation and using Storytelling as a teaching medium. I currently teach into the courses Introduction to Teaching Online and the short course Teaching and Learning Principles and Practice in Higher Education.  I have also been a casual academic for several years teaching Children’s Literature: Writing for Young People and Global Experience: Professional Development, which has given me insight into the practical applications of teaching and learning in an online environment. I am a member of Writers SA and have written and published several Young Adult novels online.
