About me
I have held the position Clinical Nurse at the Mount Gambier UniSA campus since 2012. This role involves collaboration with clinical and academic staff across the three UniSA campuses to review, create and deliver clinical workshops in our simulated Horizon Hospital and Health Service (HHHS). As Clinical Nurse, I oversee the day to day running and organisation of our simulated hospital area. We have a team of highly experienced and dedicated Registered Nurses and Midwives that deliver clinical workshops to students across the three years of the Bachelor of Nursing program.
I really enjoy creating simulated patient scenarios for our students utilising our state of the art equipment in the HHHS. We create a realistic clinical environment that prepares students well for clinical placements and future nursing roles. Simulation is a valuable tool that helps students to feel comfortable providing care to patients in a supported and realistic environment before stepping into a real life clinical setting.
I worked as a Registered Nurse for 18 years in the Mount Gambier Private Hospital in addition to my UniSA role. I have experience caring for medical, surgical, paediatric and palliative care patients and clients and enjoy mentoring our students and graduates in this clinical setting also. I currently work at our local Urgent Care Clinic and as an educator with InHome Hospice Care.
Clinical facilitation is another role I undertake at times throughout the year. I enjoy visiting students on placement and helping them to achieve their goals. Seeing them develop into confident and caring Registered Nurses is something I feel honoured to be a part of.
I completed a research project in 2023 with the UniSA Department of Rural Health which considered the experiences of newly graduated Registered Nurses in rural and regional hospitals in Australia, focussing on strategies to improve their experiences.
