Hoan To is a final-year student pursuing a master's program in Water Resources Management at the University of South Australia. Hoan has a solid background in technical knowledge of hydrology, water engineering, flood forecasting, and flood risk management. He had three years of experience in numerical analysis utilizing computer-based programs for the water engineering industry (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MIKE 21, MIKE 11, EPA-SWMM, RORB, DRAINS, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, MS Office) and programming languages (C++, Python).
Being a top 2 graduate, he earned his bachelor’s in Marine and Coastal Engineering from Thuy Loi University, Vietnam, in 2018. Soon after, he started his career as a BIM technician, focusing on structural 3D models and BIM technology for high-rise building projects. Hoan was then employed as a Water Resource Engineer by the Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, Vietnam in 2020. He was involved in multiple governmental projects focusing on designing and improving infrastructure and hydraulic structures in many provinces across the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. After his second professional employment, he gained three years of experience with various responsibilities including hydraulic modelling, flood frequency analysis, BIM management, and structural design and technical drawings.
Marked another big milestone on his journey in 2023, he received the Australia Awards Scholarship from the Australian Government and commenced a new journey to earn a master's engineering degree in Water Resources Management at the University of South Australia. He was dedicatedly involved in research during his study. His main research areas are hydrology, hydrological modelling, and flood risk assessment.
