I am an applied linguist who employs sociolinguistic and cultural perspective to critically examine, analyse, understand, and interpret language, culture, and society. My research draws from the epistemologies of the Global South, African epistemologies, and decolonial theories.

My current research encompasses two broad strands of sociolinguistics:

The first strand focuses on language planning and language policy issues in postcolonial Africa, with an emphasis on the geopolitics of former colonial languages (especially French) and the role of African languages in education.

The second research strand explores language policy and planning, Islamic literacies in West Africa, and critical intercultural pedagogies.
