Jack Burton has been involved in commercial computing since 1989, beginning in Fortran programming and later database design, leading---after interludes in sales management & management consulting---to ICT management and computing consultancy. Much of that time was spent in software engineering and information security, with a strong focus on free & open source software (FOSS). He is well known in the Australian computing profession and in particular within the Australian FOSS industry, having founded two companies and served on the boards of various professional societies and industry bodies.

Jack Burton has been involved in commercial computing since 1989, beginning in Fortran programming and later database design, leading---after interludes in sales management & management consulting---to ICT management and computing consultancy. Much of that time was spent in software engineering and information security, with a strong focus on free & open source software (FOSS). He is well known in the Australian computing profession and in particular within the Australian FOSS industry, having founded two companies and served on the boards of various professional societies and industry bodies.
Complementing his professional activities in industry, Burton has also held academic roles since 2018, teaching first at Torrens University before joining UniSA in 2020, where currently he teaches in IS & IT (and previously was involved in curriculum development for engineering).
