Dr Jamie Cleland

Dr Jamie Cleland is a Senior Lecturer in the Sport and Recreation team in the School of Management at the University of South Australia. He is the co-author of Screen Society (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), co-author of Collective Action and Football Fandom: A Relational Sociological Approach (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), sole author of A Sociology of Football in a Global Context (Routledge, 2015) and co-author of Football’s Dark Side: Corruption, Homophobia, Violence and Racism in the Beautiful Game (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). About me

Dr Jamie Cleland is a Senior Lecturer in the Sport and Recreation team in the School of Management at the University of South Australia. He is the co-author of Screen Society (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), co-author of Collective Action and Football Fandom: A Relational Sociological Approach (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), sole author of A Sociology of Football in a Global Context (Routledge, 2015) and co-author of Football’s Dark Side: Corruption, Homophobia, Violence and Racism in the Beautiful Game (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). Outside of these four books he has also published over 30 articles and chapters on sport and leisure, particularly focusing on communication, abuse towards match officials, gender, sexuality/homophobia, race and active supporter mobilisations in a range of international journals and books. His research findings have gained wider public interest and he was an invited expert witness as part of the United Kingdom's Department for Culture, Media and Sport's inquiry into homophobia in sport in 2016.
