About me
Jeannie Burnett has enjoyed combining clinical practice and teaching in the thirteen years since she completed her Master’s Degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (University of SA, 2003). In her 24 years of clinical work since completing her bachelor degree, Jeannie has specialised in spinal, complex and orofacial pain in both the public and private sectors. She continues to practice locally in Norwood where a current area of interest is complex pain presentations and multidisciplinary management of pain. Along with this interest she has clinical interest in understanding and managing Orofacial Pain ( TMJ,TMD and headache) .
As a Clinical Educator Jeannie has lectured and tutored undergraduate and post-graduate students in the fields of Pain Science and on Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation clinical placements. As a practicing and teaching academic Jeannie enjoys helping students learn and develop the skills required to implement new and emerging knowledge of pain science into everyday practice with clients with complex needs.Jeannie is able to bring real and conmtemporary patient examples and stories into her teaching which has proven to enrich the students' undertsdanding of the subject matter.
Jeannie currently holds a .6 FTE fixed contract position with the UNISA which has provided her with the opportunity to enagage in many modes of teaching - face to face , mixed and online forums, to both undergraduate and postgraduate Physiotherapists. In collaboration with Body in Mind ( BIM) Jeannie has coordinated a clinically based course targeting the working clinician in rural areas - aiming to upskill them in their understanding and clinical application of pain sciences. This course is delivered to a mulitdisicplinary cohort - from Physios, Occupational therapists, Psychologists, General Medical Practitioners and Pain Specialists. It is a privileged position to be able to engage in conversations and reflections from a number of different specialties, and teaching into this cohort provides Jeannie with learning of her own.
Jeannie remains committed to educating beyond her role at the university - she delivers evening lectures in to TMD/ orofacial pain to Dentists groups and through the Australian Phsyiotherapy Association(APA) . Jeannie has recently developed online modules covering Pain Sciences Basics that will be accessible by Clinicans through the APA continuing professional developement requirements.
The opportunity to collaborate with prospective students in their learning and mentoring their application of pain sciences and clinical musculoskeletal Science continues to empassion and drive Jeannie in her teaching role with UNISA.
