Jeff Kasparian was appointed Acting Director, Institute for Telecommunications Research at the University of South Australia in January 2014. Prior to this, Jeff oversaw Human Resource, Finance, Project and Contract management responsibilities at ITR. Prior to this appointment he was ITR’s Business Development Manager.
Jeff received his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering (Honours) from the University of South Australia. He was awarded a University Medal following completion of his degree. In 2004 Jeff received a Diploma of Management and Organisational Leadership from Management and Research Centre. He is Secretary of the National Executive for the Space Industry Association of Australia and recently served on the committee of the South Australian Chapter of the Australasian Research Management Society for 4 years. He is a member of the Telecommunications Industry Association, TelSoc and the Australasian Information Industry Association. He started his career in industrial control, before undertaking his degree and concentrating on telecommunications. His initial technical work focused on wireless communications, with a heavy bias towards satellite communications. Over his 20+ years in wireless communications research and development his experience has included technical, project management, operations management and business development. He has taken numerous leadership roles on research and development programs in wireless communications, with particular focus on satellite communications, and involving external clients including Inmarsat, European Space Agency, COM DEV and Australian Defence. Jeff has strong interest is in connecting ITR's innovative research and development capabilities with industry and government. He is an avid amateur cyclist and can be found riding in and around the beaches and hills of Adelaide several times a week.
