Dr Jesmin Rupa is an applied economist with a research interest in labour market, development economics, public health and related policy implications. Dr Rupa has research expertise both in qualitative and quantitative research analyses. Her recent publications demonstrates her reserach skills in different mix-methodologies. Currently she is working as a Post-doctoral research associate at the University of South Australia (UniSA STEM and Business School). As a Post-doc Dr Rupa is developing an informed strategy of labour market for Artificial Intelligence (AI), predominantly for Australian Defence, and producing a report for Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG). Broadly, her research trying to understand how Australian industries adapt to recruiting and retaining AI talent and how is Australian tertiary education system keeping pace with the current demand for AI labour, what are the potential barriers for AI-talents to enter the industry as well as what challenges industries do face in recruiting these talents, which is an important part of the ecosystem, especially for Defence. This research is funded by Defence Artificial Intelligence Research Network (DAIRNet) and got ethics approval (low risk category) from UniSA Business (022/2022).
Dr Rupa is also a visiting lecturer in the School of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Adelaide. She also has a research officer position in the department of Reahabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care at Flinders University. Dr Rupa coferred her PhD in 2019 and Masters in 2014 from the University of Adelaide. Her thesis received Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Excellence. She was also invited to be the mace bearer at her graduation ceremony on 3 May, 2019. Dr Rupa has published all her research works in either domestic and international conferences or in peer-reviewed journals (Economics and Health related journals).
