About me
Hello and welcome to the home page of Jessie Childs. Jessie teaches Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation (RADY 5030), Musculoskeletal Sonography (RADY 5029), Minor Thesis 1 (HLTH 6014), Minor Thesis 2 (HLTH 5186), Advanced Skill Project (HLTH 5184) and Advanced or Extended Practice Report (HLTH 5147), for the School of Health Science Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography. She has extensive industry experience having worked as a general sonographer for over ten years in both public and private practices across Australia, serving as the Chief Sonographer and Tutor Sonographer at multiple practices. As well as a keen interest in teaching the practical and theoretical aspect of ultrasound, Jessie is also heavily invested in ultrasound research. After completing an honours thesis in sonography of the ulnar nerve she went on to gain her PhD in developing a method of measurement and reference interval for sonographic 2D measurements of the liver. The capstone paper of this research was one of Wiley's top 5 most downloaded radiology papers of 2016. Whilst continuing postdoctoral research into the liver, Jessie is also involved in multiple collaborations with other researchers in the fields of PICC vein insertions, transvaginal sonography and ultrasound safety. In 2014 Jessie was awarded the Australasian Sonographers Association's (ASA) SA Sonographer of the year and also their highest accolade: The Pru Pratten Memorial award; National Sonographer of the year for her contribution to ultrasound through teaching, tutoring and research. More recently, in 2017, Jessie was awarded Researcher of the year. Jessie serves as the Chair of the ASA fellowship committee and as a member of the ASA SA Branch Committee.
