About me

Professor Jinming Duan

Professor Jinming Duan has recently started working as the Academic Director of An De College, School of Natural and Built Environments. Prior to this, he was a Professor of Water Science and Engineering, and also the Head of the Division of Water and Wastewater Science & Engineering (2006-2010), at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT). He holds a Ph.D. in Public Health Engineering from the University College London, UK, and a MEng in Environmental Engineering and BEng in Water and Wastewater Engineering from the Institute of Metallurgy and Construction, China. His teaching and research experience covers a wide range of topics within water science and engineering.

About me

Professor Jinming Duan has recently started working as the Academic Director of An De College, School of Natural and Built Environments. Prior to this, he was a Professor of Water Science and Engineering, and also the Head of the Division of Water and Wastewater Science & Engineering (2006-2010), at Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT). He holds a Ph.D. in Public Health Engineering from the University College London, UK, and a MEng in Environmental Engineering and BEng in Water and Wastewater Engineering from the Institute of Metallurgy and Construction, China. His teaching and research experience covers a wide range of topics within water science and engineering.

 

Professor Duan’s research expertise focuses on the areas of water quality detection and analysis, water and wastewater treatment, RO membrane desalination, as well as generic colloid and surface chemistry and mineral processing. This includes detection of micropollutants such as pesticides and disinfection by-products, algal toxins using UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, removal of micropollutants using advanced oxidation and enhanced coagulation for natural organic removal and disinfection by-products control. His research activity has also extended to the modelling of biological treatment processes such as nitrification and denitrification for nutrients removal and wastewater reuse. His publications have been widely cited in the international scientific research community. In the last ten years, Professor Duan has supervised 10+ PhD students and 60+ Masters students in the areas of water science and engineering. He has also been supervising the design projects of undergraduate students in water treatment and supply as well as wastewater treatment. During this time, he has also provided consultations to the water industry in all these areas. Professor Duan is currently also a course coordinator and principal lecturer for the Water Chemistry course in the School of Natural and Built Environments.
