Professor Johan Bruwer is Research Professor of Marketing in the School of Marketing at the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science - world famous for its research and financially supported by more than 65 national and international organisations, including some of the world's biggest brands.

About me
Professor Johan Bruwer is Research Professor of Marketing in the School of Marketing at the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science - world famous for its research and financially supported by more than 65 national and international organisations, including some of the world's biggest brands.
Professor Bruwer was appointed to the Economics and Commerce Research Evaluation Committee (REC) of the Australian Research Council (ARC) for the evaluation of the ERA 2018 round.
Professor Bruwer also holds appointments as Adjunct Professor at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand and as Professor Extraordinaire at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He has been awarded an official researcher rating in the category “internationally acclaimed researchers” by the National Research Foundation (NRF).
Professor Bruwer holds Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSc) with Honours, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Advanced Marketing, and PhD degrees from the University of Stellenbosch. Prior to commencing his academic career he worked in senior management positions in private industry, including as CEO of a large timber processing company, and successfully established his own research consultancy business. Currently he specialises in the marketing, consumer behaviour, tourism and wine marketing fields.
Professor Bruwer has published more than 150 research journal articles, book chapters, book reviews, editorials and research reports in the broader areas of marketing, consumer behaviour, tourism, and business management. He has been Chief Investigator of more than 20 category 1, 2 and 3 research grants to the value of $2 million, and is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Expert Assessor and an ERA Peer Review Member in the 2012 and 2015 rounds. He is also an International Expert Advisor for the National Research Foundation (NRF), a Senior Research Fellow at Vineland Research and Innovation in Canada, and an affiliate faculty member at the University of British Columbia in Canada.
Professor Bruwer maintains a strong industry focus and has developed and presented workshops and short training courses for industry partners throughout Europe, the Americas, Australasia and South Africa. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Wine Business Research, a board member of the Academy for Wine Business Research, and is a member of the Australian Marketing Institute, the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy, and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Industry consultancy
I am a specialist in the fields of Wine Marketing and Winery Business Management and have developed and taught courses such as Advanced Wine Marketing, Global Wine Market, Winery Business Management, and Wine Tourism in this space.
In 2014, I was the Coordinator of the Marketing module of the Kedge Business School (France) Wine MBA partnership agreement with UniSA's School of Marketing. I teach the Wine Tourism and Direct-to-Consumer Marketing component in this programme.
I have also had a strong focus on engagement with industry and have presented workshops and developed and presented customised short (1-2 day) training courses in the USA, France, Canada, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia on 28 occasions in total.
