John Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Economics. John has broad research interests in public economics and applied microeconomics. His research interests include modelling special interest group behaviour, sports economics, microeconomic models of corruption, and economic history.
John joined the University of South Australia in 2004 after completing his PhD in Economics at the University of Adelaide. About me
John Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in Economics. John has broad research interests in public economics and applied microeconomics. His research interests include modelling special interest group behaviour, sports economics, microeconomic models of corruption, and economic history.
John joined the University of South Australia in 2004 after completing his PhD in Economics at the University of Adelaide. His doctoral work in public choice and corruption focussed on how special interest groups influence and evade policy and the interaction between different forms of corruption and political competition. Since that time, John has undertaken work expanding his interest in public economics working on a variety of topics, most notably examining public policy aspects of professional sports in which he has published two books. His research also includes publications in economic history examining both trade policy and sports economics. Among other outputs, John has published in The Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, The Economic Record, and The Journal of Sports Economics. In 2014 he was an invited contributor to the Cambridge Economic History of Australia. He has also conducted funded research for the Victorian Department of Justice.
John is the Honorary Treasurer of the Economic Society of Australia (SA) and was previously Secretary and member of the Executive of the Economic History Society of Australia and New Zealand.
