About me
Kalpana is a social work academic in the UniSA Jus & Society. Her teaching speciality is in the field of rural practice, community development, mental health and ageing population. Her research focuses on immigrants’ settlement, coping and resilience, aged care and teaching and learning in higher education. She has completed various research projects that include ‘Developing effective feedback strategies in higher education’, ‘Settlement of immigrants in rural and regional area’, Immigrant workers in Aged care industry’ and ‘Self- care mental health practices of immigrants’ settled in regional area’ and most recently on ‘Curriculum innovation in higher education’ in collaboration with Western Sydney University, Australia and, the National University of Education and Public Administration (NEUAPA) in New Delhi, India . She has also published a co-edited book on ‘Community work: theories, practices and challenges’ published by Niruta Publications, Bangalore, India.
She is supervising a Ph. D student who is researching on ' How intergenerational care is perceived and practised in Chinese international families living in Australia'?
Kalpana has established collaborations with key social work institutions in India and currently sits as a social work subject expert on the 'Board of studies' of Alaggapa University, TN, India. She is being appointed as an Editorial Board member of the '‘Rajagiri Journal of Social Development’ until 2022 by Rajagiri Social Science Institute, Cochin, India.
She welcomes any inquiry from students for higher degree research and from colleagues for research collaborations in the areas of ageing and aged care, intergenerational care, immigrants and migration, community development and coping and resilience.

I am actively involved with the social service providers in the regional Australia: Regional Development Australia, Advancing Whyalla, Kindred Living (previously known as Whyalla Aged Care Inc ). I work collaboratively to developing training and research in the region.
I am part of the team involved in the international mobility and organize students' exchange and study tours.Having strong links and relationship with the Delhi University, Raja Giri Institute, Cochin, and Manipal Higher Academy of Education,India has benefitted in providing global cultural experience to students and work on collaborative teaching and research.

I have expertise and interest in wide range of subject fields in social work such as community development, rural social work, ageing and aged care, group work and mental Health. I have extensive experience in community development practice and rural and remote social work practice thus very passionate about this subject. I coordinate work integrated learning placements in the regional Australia. I have specialized training in mental health, and keep interest in teaching and practice in mental health field. My scholarship in teaching includes curriculum development and developing strategies for student engagement in higher education.
