Kathryn is a member of the Centre for Enterprise Dynamics in Global Economies (C-Edge), an academic researcher, tutor, course facilitator, and curriculum co-designer for entrepreneurship courses in UniSA Business. Kathryn holds a first class Master's degree in Learning and Development and degrees in social science and arts. She is a current PhD candidate in UniSA Business, undertaking a PhD in urban economic geography which explores the ways that interactions and connections occur in innovation precincts. She is funded for her research by an Australian Research Council grant under the project Future Work, Future Communities. Her research takes a case study approach and she has been able to share early findings at conferences and workshops both in Adelaide and internationally. In 2023 she won the UniSA Business Finals of the Three-Minute Thesis competion.
Kathryn has been involved with entrepreneurship courses at UniSA since 2020, both teaching and contributing to curriculum and assessments. She has guided a few hundred students through their courses in that time in online and classroom settings. In 2022 she was recognised with a Staff Excellence Award for teaching.
Before coming into research and teaching, Kathryn worked in executive roles focused on strategic partnerships and entrepreneurial development of business, services, and programs. She also runs her own consultancy with projects in economic development strategy, strategic direction for established organisations and startups, and executive management. She was the founding Deputy Director, Enterprise at the New Venture Institute, Flinders University's innovation and entrepreneurship arm and is a founding member of Coralus, a fund for social entrepreneurs tackling the Sustainable Development Goals.
