About me
Dr Kathy Hill is a renal nurse with a research interest in social inequalities in relation to the development of chronic kidney disease, specifically populations burdened by low socioeconomic environments and the striking disadvantage seen in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. She holds a teaching and research position within the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Unisa and also continues to practice regularly in the clinical environment. Kathy completed her PhD in 2017 and published the results of her research in BMC Public Health ‘Hill, K, Ward, P, Grace, BS & Gleadle, J 2017, 'Social disparities in the prevalence of diabetes in Australia and in the development of end stage renal disease due to diabetes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia and Maori and Pacific Islanders in New Zealand', BMC public health, vol. 17, article no. 802, pp. 1-8. She has presented many times at the Renal Society of Australasia annual Conference and plans to continue to combine her clinical practice with her research program to identify contemporary issues in the health care environment and conducting relevant research that will translate into improved outcomes. She is responsible for supervision and support of Master in Nursing students undertaking their studies with a research component and also teaching research methods in the undergraduate program, both of which offer the opportunity to mentor future nursing researchers.
