About me
Lan Kelly is a statistician with the Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Research Centre in the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences. Her current projects include "Improving the safety of implantable medical devices", funded by an NHMRC Ideas grant. Previous projects include the ReMInDAR clinical trial, investigating a pharmacist service to reduce medication related deterioration in residents of aged care centres and the CRISTAL trial of two medicines to prevent venous thromboembolism after joint replacement surgery. Lan has worked with the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in post-market surveillance of medicines and medical devices, applying statistical methods to adminstrative data to investigate the safety of medicines and devices. Her research interests are in biostatistical methods for public health and pharmacoepidemiology.
Lan has a multidisciplinary background in physics, mathematics and statistics. She has a PhD in optical physics, a graduate certificate in biostatistics and is an accredited statistician with the Statistical Society of Australia. She has experience in statistical methods for national registries, randomised controlled trials and survey design and has developed an algorithm for a high accuracy geocoding tool for data linkage and spatial analysis. She was previously a consultant statistician at the University of Adelaide and a methodologist at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. As a physicist, she has worked in adaptive optics for Durham University, UK and was an ARC early career postdoctoral fellow researching wavefront sensors for optometry and the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).
