Leslie Matthews is Studio Head of Jewellery and Metal in the South Australian School of Art. Leslie has been a practicing contemporary jeweller and object maker for over 20 years and has exhibited consistently in group and solo shows, locally, nationally and internationally. Research Statement
The imagery I reference in the creation of my work relates to the human anatomy and the sculptural forms of bones. The themes connected to the work are ones such as cultural dislocation and familial history, as well as an interconnecting overlay of personal narrative/story telling through memory. In the creation of my work the choice of materials predominantly are sterling silver and bronze, using fabrication, metalsmithing and lost wax casting techniques.
