Dr Lisa O'Keeffe is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of South Australia. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Mathematics Teaching (Hons.), a Graduate Cert. in Further Calculus and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education. The focus of her Ph.D. research was an analysis of lower secondary school Mathematics Textbooks in an Irish context following which she was commissioned by the Irish Government body, the NCCA to conduct further textbook analysis. About me
Dr Lisa O'Keeffe is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of South Australia. She has previously taught mathematics at both second and third level to a wide variety of students in both the Irish and UK contexts and has co-ordinated a successful national blended learning project for Professional Development of in-service teachers in Ireland. Lisa’s research interests are in textbook analysis, the role of mathematical language, numeracy, pre-service teacher’s mathematical knowledge, supporting pupils’ conceptual understanding of mathematics and girls in STEM. Her recent work considers the role of analysis of language for mathematical learning and assessment and she was awarded the MERGA 2016 Early Career Researcher award for her paper: A Preliminary Analysis of the Linguistic Complexity of Numeracy Skills Test Items for Pre Service Teachers. Lisa is currently working on language analysis and numeracy on both school and text based projects.
